Biographical Information[edit]

Robert (Peanut) Doak was the son of college coach and minor leaguer Chick Doak and nephew of college coach Bob Doak.

Robert was 1-14 between three Eastern League clubs in 1944, walking 84 in 105 innings. He tied for third in the EL in defeats. In '45, he was 0-4 for the Hagerstown Owls but hit .306 as an outfielder for the Greensboro Patriots (his father's team over 30 years earlier). In 1946, he had a 4-4, 5.21 record for the New Bern Bears while hitting .296 and slugging .428. His 11 home runs were second on the club and tied for 8th in the Coastal Plain League. After not playing in 1947, he spent 1948-1949 with the Red Springs Red Robins. Doak hit .283/?/.348 in 1948 and .313/?/.436 with 26 doubles and 8 triples in 1949. He tied for 9th in the Tobacco State League in three-baggers. In 1974-1975, "Peanut" was the first head coach of the North Carolina State women's basketball team - both his father and uncle had coached men's basketball at the college level.
