Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Robert Benincasa has played in the Washington Nationals minor league system since 2012.

He was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 33rd round of the 2009 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He signed after being taken by Washington in the 7th round of the 2012 amateur draft.

He began his professional career with the Auburn Doubledays in 2012, going 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 16 games, striking out 32 batters in 23 1/3 innings. In 2013, he was 0-5 with 27 saves and a 3.00 ERA in 45 games between the Hagerstown Suns and Potomac Nationals, striking out 64 batters in 51 innings. He was a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star and a Carolina League Post-Season All-Star that year. He began 2014 with Potomac, but was promoted to Harrisburg partway through the year.
