Biographical Information[edit]

Rob Zachmann was a star catcher for Pace University, from where he graduated in 1995. Undrafted, he signed with the Newark Barge Bandits of the independent North Atlantic League that same year and was the league's all-star catcher, hitting .331 with a league-leading 5 home runs.

He was signed by the Seattle Mariners after the season and, converted to first base, made a smashing debut for the Class-A Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League, hitting .291 with 19 homers and 64 RBI. He was named the League's all-star first baseman and Most Valuable Player. He then played for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 1997, hitting .260 with 12 homers and 61 RBI. He also had the best fielding percentage of any first baseman in the Midwest League. His slugging percentage declined from .544 to .433, however, and being already old for his level, he was released after the season.
