Biographical Information[edit]

Rob Musgrave is a former All-American pitcher.

Musgrave was his state co-Pitcher of the Year in 2004. He had 459 whiffs in high school and threw two no-hitters. He was also his class valedictorian. As a college freshman, Rob was 1-0 with 3 saves, a 3.94 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings. He had a 6-3, 4.11 record as a sophomore.

His junior season, Musgrave improved to 10-2, 2.59. He tied for second in the Missouri Valley Conference in wins and walked only 17 in 111 1/3 innings. He was 52nd in NCAA Division I in ERA. He spent the summer weith the El Dorado Broncos, going 3-0 with a 0.68 ERA. Baseball America rated him the top prospect in the Jayhawk League.

Returning as a senior, the Wichita State right-hander was 12-1 with a 2.51 ERA, walking only 22 in 111 innings while striking out 101. He was one of only two seniors named to the Baseball America All-American team, joining Josh Satin. The other starting pitchers chosen were Aaron Crow, Stephen Strasburg and Brian Matusz. Rob tied for 4th in NCAA Division I in wins. He led the MVC in victories and was second in ERA. He was named All-Conference.

The San Diego Padres chose the hurler in the 14th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He had an excellent pro debut as a reliever for the Eugene Emeralds, going 6-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 42 innings. He tied for second in the Northwest League in wins and was one of two relievers chosen for the NWL All-Star team.

In 2009, Musgrave fell to 2-4, 4.92 for the Fort Wayne Tincaps despite 90 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings. He has been better in the first half of 2010 with Fort Wayne (2-0, Sv, 1 UER in 4 2/3 IP) and the Lake Elsinore Storm (1-1, 2.23, 53 K in 44 1/3 IP).
