Rigoberto Plascencia was the brother of Obed Plascencia and the uncle of Obed Plascencia Jr. Rigoberto was an outfielder who played 13 seasons in the minor leagues.

Plascencia debuted in 1968 with the Mexicali Aguilas, hitting .259/.316/.349. He split '69 between the Ciudad Madero Braves (.258/.319/.452) and Puerto Penasco (.333/.368/.502) clubs, hitting a combined 15 homers. He played in 1970 for Ciudad Madero (27 for 79, 2 2B, 6 HR, 20 R, 20 RBI in 22 G) and the Yucatan Lions (11 for 49, 2B, 3B), making it to the Mexican League for the first time. In '71, he hit .224/.273/.303 for Yucatan, followed by seasons of .200/.305/.255 and .248/.307/.309. With the 1974 Cafeteros de Cordoba, he batted .280/.336/.367 with a LMB career-high 37 walks, 6 homers and 15 doubles.

Rigo put up a .266/.307/.321 line for the 1975 Mineros de Coahuila. He hit .233/.284/.313 for the 1976 Mexico City Tigers, a teammate of his brother's for the only time. In '77, he hit .268/.312/.330 for Coahuila with a career-high 55 runs, 50 RBI, 126 hits, 6 triples, 3 steals and 470 at-bats. He fell to .224/.270/.274 in another season with the club. Plascencia played his last two years with the Veracruz Eagle (13 for 60 with 3 doubles and 4 walks in 1979, .258/.308/.314 in 1980). Overall, he had produced at a .251/.304/.317 rate in 830 Mexican League games.
