Obed Plascencia Jr. was the son of Obed Plascencia and the nephew of Rigoberto Plascencia. He spent four seasons as a backup outfielder for the Nuevo Laredo Owls, with his batting average falling each year. Debuting in 1989, the 20-year-old hit .335/.383/.459 in 233 at-bats; had he qualified, his average would have tied for 13th in the Mexican League. He batted .310/.345/.389 in 39 games in 1990, .297/.364/.419 in 1991 and .257/.316/.299 in 1992. Overall, he had a line of .301/.350/.396 in 261 LMB games.
