Biographical Information[edit]
Ricky Ward peaked at AA as a player then became a coach.
Ward was picked by the San Francisco Giants in the tenth round of the 1989 amateur draft out of junior college. He began his career with the Everett Giants in 1990, hitting .262/.347/.369 and fielding only .899 at shortstop. In 1991, he hit .278/.366/.407 with 11 home runs while fielding .958 at third for the Clinton Giants. He had the most homers on a team which included future major leaguers Rikkert Faneyte and Adam Hyzdu.
Ward batted .299/.337/.415 for the 1992 San Jose Giants and fielded .969 at second. After that, he struggled. In 1993, he played for San Jose (.182/.255/.210 in 41 G) and the Shreveport Captains (.256/.316/.344 in 33 G). In 1994, he ended his career with the Nashville Xpress, putting up a .187/.259/.353 line while backing up Mitch Simons at second base. He then returned to college to earn his degree and transitioned to coach.
