Biographical Information[edit]
Ricky Otero played three Major League seasons for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies between 1995 and 1977, appearing in a total of 109 games. He was the regular center fielder for the Phillies in 1996, appearing in 104 games and hitting .273 with 54 runs scored. He was one of the shortest players of his generation at 5' 7" and had very little power as a result. He retired after the 2002 season after playing three seasons for the Cancun Langosteros of the Mexican League.
Otero abused drugs and alcohol and was found to be living under a bridge in Cancun, Mexico in 2009, according to stories published in the Porto Rican newspaper El nuevo día that September.
