Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Ricky Barlow was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 1981 amateur draft. He pitched in the Tigers system from 1981 to 1987, reaching AAA with the Toledo Mud Hens in his final season. However, he was a disappointing 3-9, 6.01 that year and his professional career ended there. He had had another difficult season previously, in 1984, when he went 1-17 for the Lakeland Tigers of the Florida State League, with a 6.29 ERA. In 1985, he wasn't much better, going 2-12, 8.55 between Lakeland and the AA Birmingham Barons. Control was a problem for him, as he issued 101 walks in 122 innings in 1984 (against only 65 strikeouts), and 82 in 113 2/3 innings the following year.
