Biographical Information[edit]

Ricky Arnold pitched in the Cincinnati Reds system in 1977 and 1978 and in the Oakland Athletics system in 1980 and 1981. He began his professional career at 17 years old after being taken by the Reds in the 11th round of the 1977 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher Bill Latham and in the same round as outfielder Chili Davis. Perhaps his best campaign was 1980, when he went 7-4 with a 3.03 ERA in 16 games (11 starts) for the Medford A's. Overall, he went 15-11 with a 4.55 ERA in 44 games (24 starts); in 188 innings, he allowed 199 hits and 76 walks (1.463 WHIP), while striking out 95 batters.
