Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Rick Konik was drafted in the first round by two different teams, but never played baseball professionally.

He was originally taken 14th overall by the Detroit Tigers in the 1966 amateur draft, between Gary Nolan and Richie Hebner. He was the second infielder picked, following Jim DeNeff. He was then taken by the Kansas City Athletics in the 1st round of the secondary phase of the 1967 January draft, a couple picks after catcher Johnny Oates. In the 1967 June Secondary Draft, he was taken in the fifth round by the Washington Senators, a few picks ahead of pitcher Bob Chlupsa.
