Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Richard Bartel was drafted in the 17th round of the 2001 amateur draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He spent two seasons with the GCL Reds. He tossed one perfect inning for the team his first year. In 2002, he was 1-1 with a 3.14 ERA in 7 outings. He struck out 9 in 14 1/3 IP and walked 4, but allowed 19 hits.

Bartel then went to Tarleton State University to play college football as a quarterback. He was on the practice squad for the Dallas Cowboys in 2007-2008, Cleveland Browns in 2008, and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009. He was on the active roster for the Washington Redskins in 2009, but did not play. He played with Sacramento in the UFL in 2010, then finally got playing time in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals in 2010-2011.
