Richard L. Bancells

Richie Bancells has been a longtime MLB trainer.
Bancells worked as assistant athletic trainer for the 1977 Miami Orioles and head trainer for the 1978-1979 Bluefield Orioles. He was with the Rochester Red Wings as athletic trainer and road secretary from 1980-1983. He was assistant trainer for the Baltimore Orioles from 1984-1987, then became the head trainer. Still serving in that role in 2011, he held the record for longest tenure of any Orioles trainer. He has worked the 1993 All-Star Game, 2002 MLB-NPB exhibition tour and 2004 All-Star Game. In 2005, he diagnosed and treated a stroke by coach Ellie Hendricks shortly before the Orioles boarded a plane. In December 2007, he was elected president of the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society.
