Biographical Information[edit]

Although Red Tramback had only four major league at-bats, he had a .400 on-base percentage and also stole a base.

When he played in Fort Smith, Red Tramback was a first baseman who had a routine of stepping up to the plate, stepping back, then spitting on his hands before he was ready to bat.

Tramback had started in the minors as a two-way player, with above-.500 records in each of the three years that he pitched. In 1939 with Fort Smith, he went 21-8 and also hit .321 in 93 games. He missed 1943 to 1946 but came back to play minor league ball from 1947 to 1949.

He served in the Navy during World War II, and played service ball. On September 14, 1943, he played on the Norfolk Training Station team that beat the Norfolk Air Station team. Red's naval team included names such as Phil Rizzuto, Dom DiMaggio, Eddie Robinson, and Don Padgett. Tramback batted sixth in the lineup. The other team featured Pee Wee Reese.
