The second and most recent professional baseball team (as of 2006) from Red Springs, NC, the Red Springs Twins were members of the Carolina League in 1969. Managed by Tom Umphlett, the club finished last in the league at 57-84 and drew 40,332, the second fewest in the 10-team circuit. The team had no All-Stars and produced no big-league stars. Bill Zepp (3-1, 2.75) and Steve Brye (.234/~.323/.334) would arguably go on to the most success while Pete Hamm (12-11, 2.98) finished 10th in ERA as one of the top performers in the '69 season. The team did not return the next year.
On 7/16/69, despite a town population of only 4,037, the Twins drew 4,157 fans to game against Lynchburg.
