Biographical Information

"Now comes the announcement that SOUTHPAW BOOLES, of the Shreveport (La.) team, of the Texas League, will report to Manager Lajoie before the Naps leave for the second invasion of the East... Larry figures that young Booles will come in mighty handy, especially since only three of the Naps' seven right-handers are working in any thing like good form. Booles comes highly recommended... Scouts O'Brien and McGuire both saw Booles in action and they are of the opinion that he has a chance to stick in select American League society. The consideration for Booles has not been made public, but it is understood the amount paid is $2,500." - from Sporting Life, July 31, 1909

Seabron "Red" Booles is the only major leaguer through 2019 with either the first name Seabron or the last name Booles. Booles is also the only major leaguer through 2019 born in Bernice, LA, and the only major leaguer from Louisiana born in 1880, although three other Louisiana-born players made their major league debuts in 1909 along with Booles. Red pitched four games for the 1909 Cleveland Naps with a respectable 1.99 ERA, although he also gave up some unearned runs. He had been with the Shreveport Pirates in 1908 and part of 1909, going 16-16 and then 8-8. He was also with the Raleigh Red Birds for some of 1909, going 9-7.
