Biographical Information[edit]
Red Bittmann played four games at second base for the Kansas City Cowboys in 1889. He was also a part-time umpire in the American Association that year and in the NL from 1892 to 1897 for a total of nine major league games. He actually umpired his first game five days before making his major league debut. Although the minor league database does not show any minor league games for Red, Sporting Life refers to a second baseman named "Bittman" as early as 1884. Bittman managed Evansville during the 1889 Central Inter-State League season.
