Ray Tanner
Donald Ray Tanner, Jr.
- Born March 25, 1958 in Smithfield, NC USA
Ray Tanner played infield at NC State from 1977 to 1980. He was an assistant at his alma mater from 1981 to 1987. Tanner was the head coach from 1988 to 1996. He coached for Team USA in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, when they won the Silver Medal and managed them in the 2003 Pan American Games (when they won Silver again). He has been baseball coach at the University of South Carolina since 1997. Since then, he has led the team to the College World Series four times and was named the 2000 Baseball America Coach of the Year. He led South Carolina to the 2010 College World Series title, the first in school history.
