Biographical Information[edit]

Ray Schmittle played in the independent leagues from 1996 to 1998. In 1996, he was 7-7 with a 3.18 ERA in 26 games (5 starts) for the Altoona Rail Kings, earning a spot on the North Atlantic League All-Star squad. In 1997 he went 3-3 with a 6.15 ERA in 18 games (9 starts) for Altoona and in 1998, he was 1-6, 6.45 in 23 games (4 starts) between two clubs. Overall, Schmittle went 11-16 with a 5.16 ERA in 67 games (18 starts). In 178 innings, he allowed 195 hits and 9 walks (1.618 WHIP), while striking out 126 batters.

Schmittle pitched summer league ball while in college with the Kenosha Kroakers in 1994 and Waynesboro Generals in 1995.
