Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Ray Hamrick was on the Philadelphia Blue Jays in 1943 and 1944, serving as the regular shortstop in 1944. He also had an eleven-year minor league career, and played parts of six seasons with the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League. During that time, he was on the famous 1948 Oaks team team which featured the Nine Old Men.

Hamrick, from Nashville, TN, played for Southern teams in the minors from 1941 to 1943, with a batting average that went up each year. hen he hit .310 for Nashville in 1943, he got his chance at the majors in August, playing second base and shortstop. He came back in 1944, playing more shortstop (74 games) than anyone else on the team.

After his major and minor league careers, he played some semi-pro ball and later managed an old-timers team. He drove a truck for a living.
