Biographical Information[edit]
Willie "Rat" McGowan coached college baseball for over 35 years.
McGowan was an All-Conference guard in football while at Alcorn State University. He then was a teacher and coach at Central High School (1961-1964) and Higgins High School (1966-1968) with a stint at junior high in between.
In 1968, McGowan joined his alma mater as defensive backs coach; he remained there through 1993. He became head baseball coach at Alcorn State in 1972 and held that job through 2009, winning 720 games before retiring. He coached Al Jones at Alcorn State.
