Biographical Information[edit]

Randy Tate is the most futile hitter of all-time. He had 41 career at bats without a hit, all in his lone major league season, with the New York Mets in 1975 when he spent the entire year as a starting pitcher with the team. His 47 plate appearances without a hit are a record too.

Randy played in 1975 for the Santurce Crabbers of the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League. Santurce fans never forgot his pitching duels with Eddie Figueroa of the Caguas Creoles.
