Biographical Information[edit]
Randy Tate is the most futile hitter of all-time. He had 41 career at bats without a hit, all in his lone major league season, with the New York Mets in 1975 when he spent the entire year as a starting pitcher with the team. His 47 plate appearances without a hit are a record too. He wasn't too hot on the mound either, finishing at 5-13, 4.45, with 99 Ks but also 86 walks in 137 2/3 innings.
Randy played in 1975 for the Santurce Crabbers of the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League. Santurce fans never forgot his pitching duels with Eddie Figueroa of the Caguas Creoles.
