Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Ramon Martinez played in the minor leagues from 1990 to 1996. He was selected by the Florida Marlins from the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the 1993 expansion draft. He reached as high as AA, playing 132 games for the Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League in 1994 as the team's starting second baseman. He hit .241/.280/.289 that season, demonstrating that his bat was not of major league caliber. He played a couple more seasons in A ball after that, mainly as an outfielder, before calling it quits. He is the brother of Jose Martinez.

Ramon became a part-time scout for the Kansas City Royals in 2004 and added the job of infield coach for the DSL Royals in 2010-2012 and manager in 2013. He returned as infield coach in 2017. He managed the DSL Royals 2 in 2018 , the DSL Royals Blue in 2021, and the DSL Royals Glass in 2022.
