Biographical Information[edit]

Ramón del Monte led the Dominican national team to its brightest moment in an Amateur World Series. He was 4-0 with a 0.34 ERA in the 1948 Amateur World Series, getting half of the Dominican Republic's 8 wins as they won the Series for the only time in their history. He led the event in wins and ERA. He was named Series MVP. Del Monte never played professionally in the USA but did play in the Puerto Rican League, Nicaragua, Colombia and the Dominican League (the Leones del Escogido). In 1986, he made the Dominican sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
