Biographical Information[edit]
Ramon Hernandez was a left-handed screwball artist who teamed up with righty Dave Giusti in the Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen of the early 1970s. He pitched in 337 major league games, all in relief. He threw sidearm with a twisty windup that made it very difficult for opposing batters to pick up the ball; his teammate on the Pirates, Kent Tekulve, had a very similar motion, but from the right side, although Tekulve threw harder.
His nickname was "Mon".
