Biographical Information[edit]
Rafael Montalvo pitched one game for the Houston Astros in 1986. He was 17 years younger than teammate Nolan Ryan.
Starting in the minors in 1980, he was almost always a reliever until he became a starter in Taiwan in 1997. He worked his way up the Los Angeles Dodgers organization from 1980 to 1985, was in the Houston system from part of 1985 to 1988, and then was in the California Angels organization in 1990 and 1991. In 1995 he came back to the Dodgers organization to pitch in 49 games with the Albuquerque Dukes, where he had first played in 1984. From 1992-1998, he pitched for three different teams in Taiwan and for four clubs in Mexico.
