Biographical Information[edit]

Rafael De Paula has pitched in the minors.

De Paula was signed by the New York Yankees in November 2010. He did not make his pro debut until 2012 but then put on a show for the DSL Yankees 1, going 8-2 with a 1.46 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 61 2/3 IP. He finished among the Dominican Summer League leaders in wins (tied for first with 6 others), ERA (7th) and strikeouts (2nd). He skipped short-season A ball and Rookie ball in the US altogether, beginning 2013 with the Charleston RiverDogs and continuing to impress (6-2, 2.94, 96 K, 43 H in 64 1/3 IP). He made the World team for the 2013 Futures Game and was promoted to the Tampa Yankees. He struggled at the higher level, however, with a 6.06 ERA in 11 games.

In 2014, De Paula went back to Tampa to begin the season. He was 6-5, 4.15 after 20 games when he was sent to the San Diego Padres along with IF Yangervis Solarte in return for 3B Chase Headley on July 22nd.
