Biographical Information[edit]

Rafael Cruz was a minor league infielder. He hit .269/~.331/.369 for the 1985 GCL Rangers while starting at second base. He played in 1986 for the GCL Rangers (.213/~.381/.292, 24 BB, 14 SB in 37 G) and the Daytona Beach Admirals (.198/~.281/.237). He ended up in 1987 with the Gastonia Rangers, where he batted .219/~.321/.272 with 16 steals in 38 games, backing up Darrin Garner at second base and Rey Sanchez at shortstop.

He is the father of major leaguer Oneil Cruz, who he named for his favorite player, Paul O'Neill. Another son, Homer Cruz, has also played professionally.
