Biographical Information

During his playing career, Rafael Batista was wrongly listed with the birth date of Rafael Robles, a fellow native of San Pedro de Macoris. He was actually two years older than listed, a fact that came out after his death in 2008. Batista played, coached and managed the Oriental Stars in his home country over a period of more than 20 years. He scouted his homeland for talent for the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox, and was involved in youth baseball activities after retiring. In his youth, he served in the Dominican Air Force.
