- Bats unknown, Throws Right
Biographical Information[edit]
Rafael Acebey was a third baseman in the Cuban National League from 1985-86 to 2003-04, playing exclusively for Villa Clara. He was a good hitter, often batting over .300, although he had limited home run power with a career high of 9 in a season. On November 12, 1998, he became the first player in Cuban League history to turn an unassisted triple play.
He played at the Haarlem Baseball Week and won the Carl Angelo Award, given to the best player in the tournament, and was named the Haarlemse Honkbalweek Most Spectacular Player in 1990. He also appeared in the 1995 World Port Tournament, winning the Press Award in that event.
He is sometimes called Orlando Acebey, using his middle name, although that can lead to confusion with a his son, Orlando Acebey, also an infielder, whose career started in Rafael's last season, 2003-04, also with Villa Clara, and ended in 2018-19.
