Australian native Raef Hobbs-Brown has played in at least three countries in Europe. In 2005, he appeared in Britain, for the Brighton Buccaneers. He was 1 for 4 for the British national team in the 2005 European Championship. During 2006, he batted .256/.364/.300 for the Mainz Athletics; he fielded .833 (primarily being used at third base) and allowed 4 runs in 11 innings as a pitcher. His 16 walks were third in the southern Bundesliga-1, 6 behind leader Jens Heymer.

In 2007, Raef moved to France's Division Elite, signing with the Templiers Senart and batting .301/.413/.423 with 31 runs in 32 games as a utility infielder. Back in Germany in 2008, Hobbs-Brown hit .268/.379/.348 for Mainz with 18 walks (7th in the league). He fielded .991 at catcher (but had 8 passed balls in 14 games, tied for the league lead, and allowed 16 steals in 19 tries). At shortstop, he also played 14 games, fielding .938.

In 2009, Hobbs-Brown produced at a .288/.379/.384 rate and was 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA. He fielded only .818 at shortstop (10 games) but made no errors in 15 outfield contests.
