He was the third Salvadoran pitcher signed by a MLB organization, following Wilmer Villatoro (only 3 years prior) and William Ponce (who debuted the year before Romero signed), inking a deal with the San Diego Padres in 2003. [1] He pitched for Universidad de Carabobo in the 2004 Venezuelan Summer League. In 2005, he was 3-0 with a 5.57 ERA for the 2005 VSL Red Sox/Padres. He had a 3-2, 5.01 record in 18 games for the '06 DSL Padres to wrap up his minor league career.
Suiting up for El Salvador in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, the 31-year-old made two short appearances, allowing a hit, a walk and a run in 1 1/3 IP while striking out one. [2] In the 2017 Central American Games, he closed out a 7-5 near-upset against Panama, relieving Félix Rodas and allowing a hit in 2/3 of an inning. [3]
