Biographical Information[edit]
Raúl Landaeta was a backup catcher and outfielder for the Venezuelan national team that won Gold in the 1959 Pan American Games. Through 2015, no other Venezuelan baseball club has won a Pan American Games Gold Medal. Landaeta was a multi-talented athlete, playing for national titlists in basketball, volleyball and athletics (javelin) in addition to baseball. He was on Venezuela's world championship volleyball team in 1960. For the 1959 Central American and Caribbean Games, he was on the preliminary Venezuelan rosters for baseball, volleyball, basketball and athletics, an amazing feat.
