The Quebec Braves began play in the Canadian-American League in 1949 when the Quebec Alouettes ended their affiliation with the New York Giants, became an independent club, and changed their name. Former Cincinnati Reds star Frank McCormick managed the club to a league title in the team's first year. The next season, the Braves captured another championship and lead the circuit in attendance. This club was lead by skipper George McQuinn, a former major leaguer who also played first base. Outfielder Garland Lawing was the team's offensive leader, hitting .346 with 19 homers and 141 RBI to win the circuit's Triple Crown. On the mound, pitchers Fred Belinsky and Hal "Moose" Erickson were twenty game winners. However, after the 1950 season, the Braves left the Can-Am League to join the Provincial League, where they won four straight titles from 1952 to 1955, the league's last season.
