Biographical Information[edit]
Qi Chen has played for the Chinese national team at times. In the 2003 Baseball World Cup, he hit .280/.308/.360 with two runs in seven games, fielding .986 at 1B. He led China in hits (7, one ahead of Weifeng Qu and Changzheng He) and had their lone triple. Chen went 5 for 20 with a double, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts as a LF-1B in the 2005 Baseball World Cup. 3 of his hits came against Bronze Medalist Panama. He won Bronze with China in the 2005 Asian Championship, their first medal in an Asian Championship. In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, Chen struck out twice against Koji Uehara in a loss to Japan; it was his only appearance of the tournament. Chen led the 2008 China Baseball League in homers while playing for the Shanghai Eagles.
