Biographical Information[edit]
" 'Pug' Cavet... is graceful and athletic... He is already showing a terrific turn of speed. His fast ball has a neat little hop at the finish and his curve ball is a delight." - Sporting Life, March 18, 1911, about the 21-year-old Pug Cavet
Pug Cavet's pro career ran from 1908 until 1930. In that span, he was 302-252. He won 20-plus games for Mobile in 1913, Nashville in 1917 and Indianapolis in 1919 and 1921. As early as 1910, he went 18-15 (for Rock Island) and as late as 1926 he went 15-8 (for Atlanta). In the majors, he was 11-9 with a 2.98 ERA in 49 games with the Detroit Tigers. On August 28, 1914, Pug spun a six-hit shutout against the Boston Red Sox in a 3-0 victory at Fenway Park, beginning a streak of six consecutive appearances in which he would earn a pitcher win (four starts and two relief outings). He later managed a couple of seasons in the minors.
