Biographical Information

Preston Tucker is the brother of Kyle Tucker.

Preston made his major league debut with the Houston Astros on May 7, 2015 while a month later the Astros made his younger brother Kyle the 5th overall pick in the 2015 amateur draft. On July 22nd, he had the first multi-homer game of his career, hitting both off Joe Kelly of the Boston Red Sox in a 4-2 Houston win. After playing sparingly in his first couple of months with the Astros, he was in the middle of a hot streak since taking over for an injured George Springer as the team's starting right fielder at the beginning of July. In 98 games in his rookie season, he hit .243 with 13 homers and 33 RBIs. He also played briefly in the ALDS that year, going 0 for 2 with a walk in 3 games as Houston lost to the Kansas City Royals However, he followed that with a down year in 2016 when he hit just .164 with 4 homers and 8 RBIs. He did better in AAA, as he hit .301 in 53 games for the AAA Fresno Grizzlies, with 8 homers and 29 RBIs.

Preston spent the entire 2017 in the minors with Fresno and had a solid season, as he hit .250 but with 20 doubles, 7 triples and 24 homers in 128 games. However, he was not called up to Houston and thus missed the Astros' run to a World Series title. Following the season, he was sent to the Atlanta Braves in return for future considerations. That gave him a chance to get back to the big leagues in 2018, as he hit .256 in 62 games as a part-time outfielder. On July 30th, with the Braves seeking to make a run for a division title, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds along with Lucas Sims and Matt Wisler in return for OF Adam Duvall, a similar player, but one who had managed to establish himself at the major league level. He played 18 games for Cincinnati, hitting .189, then was reacquired by the Braves on September 2nd when they purchased his contract from the Reds. He played another 18 games, but batted just .083. Overall, he played 97 games that year, hitting.229 with 6 homers and 27 RBIs.

He initially signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox for 2019, but failed to make the team. He played 25 games with the AAA Charlotte Knights, hitting .277 with 1 homer and 10 RBIs, then on May 10th he obtained his release in order to move over to the Korea Baseball Organization. He played with the Kia Tigers and hit .311 in 95 games with 9 homers and 50 RBIs. He returned with the same team in 2020.
