Biographical Information

Porfirio Espinosa represented Cuba in two sports in both the 1926 Central American Games and 1930 Central American Games - javelin and baseball. In the 1926 Games, he was the first left fielder in Cuban national team history, hitting 5th and going 3 for 4 with 3 runs as the big star in their first game. He hit .400 with four runs in three games and had 3 putouts and 5 assists (it is unclear if he played something other than LF later in the games as those are high assist totals for 3 games in LF).

In the 1930 Games, he won a Gold Medal in javelin (50.57 m) and in baseball. He had 10 putouts in center for Cuba and hit .429 with 7 runs in 6 games. He was second in hits (9), one behind Manuel Chávez and he tied Chávez for second in runs, one behind Ramon Ruiz; he led the champs in both departments. He slugged .810 as four of his 9 hits were extra-base jobs (a double, two triples and one home run).
