Biographical Information

Pop Joy was a first baseman for the 1884 Washington Nationals in the Union Association in 1884. He and Phil Baker had the most games at first for the team.

Although he had 28 hits, none of them were for extra bases.

He operated a confectionary in Washington, D.C. and, as he became increasingly prosperous, he gave large amounts of money to charity. He spent his last 20 years as superintendent of the Knights of Columbus Home in Washington, D.C.. He died at age 77 in his home and is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
