Biographical Information[edit]
Poke Whalen was a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1945-1952), Philadelphia Athletics (1953-1954), Baltimore Orioles (1954-1956) and Cleveland Indians (1958-1963). His minor league record showed a stint as a catcher for the Frederick Hustlers team of the Blue Ridge League (1915-21) and he managed in the Eastern Shore League for seven straight years (1922-28) and added one more in the ESL in (1940). He piloted the Tarboro Orioles of the Coastal Plain League (1941) and the Hornell Pirates PONY League team (1942).
