Biographical Information[edit]
All but one of Podge Weihe's games were played for the 1884 Indianapolis Hoosiers, a team full of obscure players. His .254 average was above the team average and his .367 slugging percentage was 3rd among the regulars. He was 21 at the time.
His nickname "Podge" is sometimes cited as one of baseball's more colorful nicknames.
Sporting Life in 1915 carried a note that the 1915 Pittsburgh Rebels of the 1915 Federal League would play several games against Podge Weihe's All-Pros at Weihe Park. Podge's son, Podge Weihe, Jr., was presumably in charge of the team at that time.
