Biographical information[edit]

Outfielder Ping-Hung Chi played in the minors and the CPBL.

Chi played for Taiwan in the 2005 Pony World Series, helping them to a title. He was timed at 3.9 seconds to first base in scouting trials. He signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in July 2009, the second Taiwan native to sign with the Bucs, following Chi-Hung Cheng. He made his pro debut with the GCL Pirates on June 22, 2010, going 0 for 3 with a walk, two strikeouts and a time caught stealing against the GCL Yankees. He was 2 for 12 with 6 whiffs in his first five games. Chi ended up hitting .138/.333/.172 in his first pro year, and he was 1-for-9 in 2011. The Pirates then released him.

After spending two years in the amateur teams, the Lamigo Monkeys selected Chi in the 6th round of the 2014 CPBL Draft. Chi hit .354/.394/.446 in the minors in 2014, and he was 2-for-10 with the big club. He then went 2-for-10 again in 2015, and his batting line was .302/.417/.349 in the minors. However, although Chi played very well in the minor league, he couldn't get a spot for the major team because the Monkeys already had plenty of All-Star outfielders like Po-Jung Wang, Yu-Hsien Chu and Yin-Lun Lan. Chi led the minors with 4 triples in 2016, and he hit .349/.432/.450 in 50 games. He was 0-for-7 for the big club, and he only got 3 appearances in 2017 despite hitting .327/.364/.413 in the minors. He never get another big club appearance, and he announced his retirement in 2020.

Overall, Chi hit .194/.219/.194 with 6 hits in 4 seasons in the CPBL.
