Biographical Information[edit]

Pierce Johnson was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the supplemental 1st round of the 2012 amateur draft. He made his pro debut with the AZL Cubs in 2012 before moving up to the Boise Hawks a week later.

He reached the majors with the Cubs in May of 2017, but pitched only one game, allowing 2 unearned runs in 1 inning of relief. He spent the remainder of that season in AAA with the Iowa Cubs where he was 3-2, 4.31 with 9 saves in 43 games. On September 20th, he was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants and was given a more extensive look in the Show in 2018. He made 37 appearances with a record of 3-2, 5.56, logging 43 2/3 innings. he also pitched 17 times in AAA with the Sacramento River Cats where he had 4 saves and a 3.57 ERA.

Pierce moved over to Japan for the 2019 season and had an excellent season for the Hanshin Tigers, as in 58 games his ERA was a minute 1.38. He also struck out 91 batters in 58 2/3 innings. He had 40 holds as the team's main set-up man. This raised some interest back home and on December 23rd, he signed a two-year deal with the San Diego Padres, with an [[option] for a third.
