Biographical Information[edit]
Pie Vann was in the Army during World War II. He coached Mississippi Southern College's baseball team in 1948-1949. Two of his players, Bubba Phillips and Fred Waters, would be the first two Mississippi Southern players to make the majors. Vann was more noted as a football coach, guiding Mississippi Southern to a 139-59-2 record from 1949-1968. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
