Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Phil McCormick played in the San Francisco Giants minor league system from 2011 to 2016. He was taken by the club in the 31st round of that year's amateur draft.

With the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in 2011, he was 1-1 with 6 saves and a 1.19 ERA in 23 appearances. He was 3-1 with a save, 54 strikeouts and a 3.48 ERA in 61 games (51 2/3 IP) for the San Jose Giants in 2012 and in 2013, he was 4-5 with 3 saves and a 3.97 ERA in 58 trips to the mound for the Richmond Flying Squirrels. In 2014, his ERA was 3.74 and in 2015, it was 2.04 -- though he was a 26-year-old in Double A. He played in the Arizona Fall League that year and had a 4.15 mark in 9 games. He reached Triple A for the first time in 2016, but that could not keep him in the Giants system; he voluntarily retired on June 30, 2016.
