Biographical Information[edit]
Peter Kantor was a multi-positional talent in the minor leagues, spending time in the outfield, at catcher, at third base and at shortstop. He hit .301/.370/.350 in 47 games for the Rome Colonels his first campaign, 1946, and followed that with about 40 steals and 102 runs between two clubs in 1947. With the Lakeland Pilots in 1948, he batted .300 in with 172 hits in 138 games; he had just 7 doubles, though 9 triples. After a couple seasons of diminished numbers, he did not play in 1951 and 1952, but returned to hit .354 in 79 at-bats for the Palatka Azaleas/Lakeland club in 1953. That was a tumultuous year for the club's managerial staff, as they went through five managers, with Kantor serving two stints as the skipper. He initially replaced the team's first manager, Charles Baird, but was himself replaced by Paul Crawford. Crawford was replaced by Al Pirtle, who lasted just three games; he was replaced by Kantor. Then Kantor was replaced by Chuck Aleno, who managed a plurality of the club's games.
