Biographical Information[edit]

Pete Weckbecker played one game in the majors in 1889 and then 32 more in 1890. His minor league career ran from at least 1886-1900. He managed at least four times in the minors.

Pete, as of 2011, is the only player in Major League history with a last name that starts with "Wec". The only minor leaguer that may threaten this title is Justin Wechsler, who played in independent baseball in 2006. Von Wechsberg is a retired minor leaguer whose surname began with "Wec".

"Pete Weckbecker has signed with Louisville, and I congratulate Manager Chapman on his latest acquisition to the catching department. Pete is a number one catcher, and, if he is not injured, like he was last season, will make a fine record. He is a good clean batter and base-runner and a fine thrower to bases." - Sporting Life's Burlington (IA) correspondent, May 3, 1890
