Biographical Information[edit]
The New York Times described Pete Schmidt as a "local boy" in its article about the one game in which Schmidt pitched with the St. Louis Browns on July 14, 1913. The Browns had gone out to a large lead and Schmidt was brought in to pitch the last of the game against the New York Yankees.
In spite of his Germanic-sounding name, Frederich Christoph Herman Schmidt was called "Pete" in the Times article and he was born in Iowa, not in Germany.
