Biographical Information[edit]
Pavel Jozek Sr. played in the Extraliga and for the Czech national team. His son Pavel Jozek Jr. has also played in the Czech Republic. [1]
He was 11-for-29 with a walk and two doubles for Orlice Choceň in 2000, going 1-4 with a 7.50 ERA. [2] In 2001, he went 8 for 23 with 3 walks, 3 steals and a homer and was 0-3 with a 17.00 ERA. From 2002-2004, he was used almost exclusively as a pitcher for MZLU Brno, going 0-2 with 2 saves and a 4.04 ERA then 1-4 with two saves and a 5.44 ERA and 0-3 with a save and a 7.20 ERA.
Jozek split 2005 between MZLU and Draci Brno, going a combined 5-4 and going 7-for-44 with 11 walks. He tied for 7th in the league in wins and was 7th with 63 K (between Zdeněk Kocman and Martin Schneider). He was one of the few roster additions for the Czechs between the 2005 European Championship and 2005 Baseball World Cup when he joined them for the latter event. He debuted against Spain, relieving Marián Gajdoš and pitching a scoreless inning with a strikeout and two hits allowed, then being replaced by Jan Drábek. He yielded 7 runs in 4 2/3 IP for the World Cup, but five Czech hurlers had higher ERAs. [3]
The right-hander fell to 2-3, 7.16 for MZLU in 2006 then was 3-3 with a 3.25 ERA in '07 and 1-1 with a 2.31 ERA in his final campaign, 2008. He had gone 13-27 with 5 saves and a 5.20 ERA during his career.
