Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Paul Salata played in the St. Louis Browns system in 1950, hitting .233/.378/.378 with 2 home runs and 12 RBI in 32 games between the Wichita Indians and Wichita Falls Spudders. He was more well known for his National Football League career, where he played as an End for the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Colts in 1949 and 1950. He also played in the Canadian Football League in the early 1950s, earning a spot on the All-Star team in 1952. In addition, he created the Mr. Irrelevant Award, given to the last player taken in each year's NFL draft.
